James specialises in criminal defence at trial and on appeal, particularly cases involving allegations of serious physical violence, sexual assault and non-contact sexual offences.

James began his legal career working for a senior criminal barrister for a number of years.  He subsequently went into sole practice for several years at Sentinel Chambers, before joining Augusta Chambers in 2025.

James regularly appears in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal.  Additionally, James has argued two appeals before the Supreme Court.

James is available for private instructions and is an approved Legal Aid Provider (PAL 3; and Court of Appeal and Supreme Court appeals).
